How we compare rental terms
Every number on this site comes from a page the rental company publishes itself, and every number links back to that page. We record what is written, the date we read it, and nothing we had to guess.
Where the data comes from
We read each operator's English-language website: the price list, terms and conditions, FAQ, insurance page and airport pages. For one operator, Citty, whose English terms are incomplete, we also read its Russian FAQ and mark those values as coming from Russian pages. We do not use pages that an operator's robots.txt asks crawlers to avoid. For every term we store the value, the page address and a short quote. If a term is not on the website, the table says not published. We do not fill gaps with phone calls, emails or test bookings, because those answers cannot be checked by readers.
Review counts come from each operator's Google Maps listing. Where an operator has several listings, we show the one with the most reviews and say which it is. Where we could not match a listing to the operator with confidence, the table says so rather than guessing.
What the columns mean
- Deposit. Money blocked on a card or held in cash at pick-up. A refundable hold still counts as a deposit.
- Excess. The most you pay towards damage under the included insurance. Some companies call it a deductible or franchise.
- Zero-excess price. The published daily price of the cover that takes the excess to zero, and what that cover adds.
- Airport fee. Any charge for pick-up or return at Tbilisi (TBS), Kutaisi (KUT) or Batumi (BUS) airport, per end of the rental.
- Night fee. Any extra charge for a handover outside normal hours.
- Automatic 4WD models. Models the operator lists with both automatic transmission and four- or all-wheel drive. Where only part of a fleet is shown, we say so.
- Table order. Tables are sorted by road-trip score (see below), then by the share of automatic 4WD models, then by number of Google reviews; operators without a matched listing follow alphabetically. Picks inside a situation are listed alphabetically.
- Cheapest listed price. The lowest daily price on the operator's own site, with the car and the conditions attached to it. It is not a quote for your dates.
How the road-trip score works
Each operator gets one point for each of four criteria, all judged from its published terms:
- Fleet: at least half of its listed models are automatic with four- or all-wheel drive.
- Roads: its insurance covers official gravel and mountain roads for every car class, not only a special class.
- Money up front: no deposit and no prepayment on standard cars.
- Arrival: a free Tbilisi airport handover at any hour.
We chose these four because each covers a cost or risk that a road trip here runs into: gravel and mountain roads need both a suitable car and a contract that covers them, a deposit or prepayment ties up money before you drive, and an airport handover can cost extra at night.
Operators are ranked by score. Ties are broken by the share of automatic 4WD models among the models an operator lists, because that share decides how likely you are to get a suitable car for mountain roads, and then by number of Google reviews. Where a term is not published or the operator's pages contradict each other, the point is not given. The ranking reflects road trips; for other needs, use the picks by situation.
How the picks by situation are decided
Each situation states its criteria first, then names every operator that meets them on published terms. A company can win one category and be weak in another, and every pick lists its trade-offs. Review counts are shown next to every pick so you can weigh reputation yourself.
How current the data is
All terms were read between 23 and 24 October 2026, and each page shows the date its terms were last read. When we re-read an operator, we update its values and note any change on its profile. Prices on rental sites move with dates and seasons, so treat any price here as a guide and confirm the total with the operator before paying.
What we do not do
- We do not publish customer reviews or personal rental stories.
- We do not rate cars, staff or service quality we have not measured.
- We do not take bookings or payments.
Corrections
If an operator's terms have changed or we have misread a page, email info@rentalcompare.ge with the page address. We correct the table once the change is visible on the operator's own website.
